What can we learn from China? - February 2008
Attachment- spring 2007
”in the eyes of many, the kibbutz settlements of Gaash and Shefaim, located in the center of the densely populated Gush Dan, are nowadays synonymous with the dismantling of the communal idealistic way of life turned into eager real setate development. The studio focused on a new development planned for Gaash, originally designated for its inhabitants, but sold to provate investors which attempted to turn it into a suburban high-end development. Their plan was rejected by the regional planning committee that claimed it does not provide an appropriate “kibbutz character”. Development was halted ever since. The challenge faced by the “Attachment” studio was to provide a scheme that combines market demands for exclusive development and the committee’s ambitions. In other words it is an attempt to redefine a “kibbutz character” in terms of landscape, design and social organization after its ideological basis disappeared. The projects in the studio acted as case studies, envisioning the near future of landscape constantly taken over by Attachments of built mass.”
