Patternmaker - fall 2006
”The fall 2006 design studio is initiating a cooperation with the geography department of the hebrew university and architect Shamay Assif, head planner of the national plan for Israel. The "pattern maker" design studio deals with the x-urban planning through the investigation of spatial patterns. What defines a pattern as such, in what ways can it be duplicated and how it can be used to create desirable spatial outcomes are the questions that shape the studio work, which focuses on the meta-site of road no. four and the virtual site of the "TAMA 35" plan. Road no. four in Israel, also known as the "old road", gradually turned into the ultimate territory of all repressed elements in Israeli planning. As such, it serves as an ideal case-study for the issues raised in the city/state unit.”
